My mother used to work in the tourism sector. It was so long ago that it seems another life, when she speaks about it.
Still after changing working sector, she has a good eye for new holiday locations. When we look for a new place there is a must: the sea has to be beautiful. We are a sea type of family; I think we have never spent a holiday at the countryside or at the mountains.
Since we moved to Paris we kind of miss Italy, even if it is quite close to France. Nevertheless, this last years we spent a lot of our summer holidays in Italy.
We try to enjoy our precious holidays until the last days. There was a time when we had just one week left and of course, we decided to try to organize something.
We took a train from Florence directly to Salerno and a transfer to Palinuro. Palinuro is located in the Cilento National Park in Campania. The views and the sea were amazing.
We went in September so there were not too many people. We enjoyed our stay at the La Torre Hotel, a little hotel at the port of Palinuro.
The hotel had a gorgeous terrace that looks at the sea, where you can eat or just relax under the fresh pergola.

The Hotel is called La Torre because of the ancient tower inside of the structure. It is a really romantic place.
Just in front of the hotel, there are two private beaches clubs where you can relax and swim in transparent water.

For a bite, right on the beach, you can eat something at the snack bar of the hotel. If you are really hungry and looking for something simple and tasty, the Embarcadero Bar is your place. Next to the hotel beach clubs, this restaurant prepare fresh fish dishes, the menu changes almost daily but it is always ridiculously tasty.

From the Port, you can walk to the lovely village of Palinuro. The view while walking is incredible, the fresh hair and the amazing colours of the sea are magical.

I found this type of holiday very healing, you truly forget about anything stressful and just enjoy. There are moments to be active and others you just need to relax in the same place without moving too much.
There is a quote about the sea, by the American writer and aviator Anne Morrow Lindbergh that summarizes a lot my feelings:
“The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy, or too impatient. One should lie empty, open, choiceless as a beach – waiting for a gift from the sea.”
Palinuro is a great place to wait for that gift.

After reading this, I would love to visit Palinuro! It is truly a gift from the sea!
